I live outside the US. How does international shipping work?
After the campaign ends, we’ll send out a Backer Survey to get your shipping information, and start shipping reward packages in April. Now that we are fully funded, we’re able to place our first production run, and get the first PackLite Max Phone Chargers shipped to our backers by April. All backers will receive a shipping confirmation once their lights ship with tracking information. Please allow 1-2 days for your tracking to update.
Delivery times will depend on your shipping country and the number of items included in the package. Small packages (1 light) will ship via USPS First Class Mail International, which typically takes 1-3 weeks for delivery. Larger packages (2+ lights) will ship via FedEx Ground to Canada and Mexico (7 business days) and via FedEx International Economy everywhere else (5-7 business days).
As of 2/7/17, we have capped all international shipping rates for new reward levels at $50, to try and keep costs down for our international backers. We apologize that we can’t provide cheaper rates, but it costs $20-25 to ship a single PackLite Max Phone Charger to some countries, so we are absorbing all shipping costs above $50 ourselves. Thank you for your patience and support. We’ll try to think of some nice goodies to add to the packages to help make your delivery even sweeter!
Please note that some countries may charge additional taxes and duties upon import. Unfortunately, LuminAID is unable to provide an exact estimation as the amount charged is subject to the discretion of your local customs office. How do the "Give Light, Get Light" rewards work?
If you chose one of our “Give Light, Get Light” options, you’ll receive light(s) for yourself and we will send light(s) to someone in need through one of LuminAID’s charitable partners.
You will receive your PackLite Max Phone Charger(s) in April, and the corresponding donated light(s) will ship depending on our charitable partners’ travel timelines.
For the Global Giver Package, the first shipment of PackLite 16’s will be sent to our partner SCM Medical Missions in late March, when they pack a container to be sent to the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan.
For the Superstars who are interested in donating your entire reward level, you will have the option to do so in your Backer Survey once the campaign ends!

I want more than one light. What reward level should I choose?
We’ve gotten this question a lot because each backer can only choose one level of support for a Kickstarter campaign. The good news is that you’re able to edit your reward selection while the campaign is active!
We’ve added several multi-light reward levels, so you can pick what makes sense for you. If you want more than one light, we recommend picking one of these rewards:
Get 2, Give 1 Package – you’ll get 2 PackLite Max Phone Chargers for yourself, and send one to someone in need!
4x PackLite Max Phone Charger Early Bird – get 4 PackLite Max Phone Chargers at the $30 Early Bird price.
Adventure Kit – get 7 lights from our Pack Line. Give them as gifts, share with your friends, or just keep them all and light up the night!
For details on how to change your reward level, Kickstarter has instructions here: https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions#faq_63083

Can I change my reward level or add more money after I've backed the campaign?
Yes! You can only choose one reward level per campaign, but you can edit your selection as long as our campaign is active (until 3/5/17). You can find more instructions on changing your reward selection here: https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions#faq_63083
If you want to add some additional money on top of the reward you’ve chosen (thanks, by the way!), you can do that easily by editing your pledge. Kickstarter has some instructions here: https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions#faq_63084

What is the PackLite Max Phone Charger made of? And why is it so important to be PVC-free?
The PackLite Max Phone Charger is made of a durable and sustainably-made plastic material called TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). This material is 100% PVC-free and phthalate-free. Each light also contains a a high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panel, LED circuit, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a type of halogenated plastic that contains two known human carcinogens: vinyl chloride and dioxin. These carcinogens are not only emitted in large quantities during production but on the plastic itself. As LuminAID lights are meant to be safe for the entire family and inflated with direct contact to the plastic valve, LuminAID Lab is happy to produce 100% PVC-free lights.

What are lumens and how do they compare to watts?
Lumens is a standard unit used for measuring brightness of lights, while watts is a unit for measuring the amount of electricity required to power an electrically-powered object. In lightbulbs, watts are used to measure how much energy is required to power the bulb. As technology develops, more energy-efficient lightbulbs may use fewer watts to produce the same number of lumens (brightness).
The PackLite Max Phone Charger is solar-powered and does not depend on an electrical grid so it is more relevant to provide the number of lumens that it produces. Using lumens, we may explain how bright the light it produces is and how large of a space it can illuminate.

How fast does the Max Phone Charger charge my device compared to normal outlets?
The PackLite Max Phone Charger provides a 5V, 2.5Amp output that is the same as standard wall plug adapters for charging phones. This means that the Phone Charger will charge your mobile phone just as fast as normal charging through your wall outlet.
Note that the output may vary depending on the brand or manufacture of your USB or lightning cable. For best charging, use the cable provided with your device or the USB cable provided with the PackLite Max Phone Charger.

How can I recharge my PackLite Max Phone Charger?
The PackLite Max Phone Charger is equipped with both a solar panel for solar charging and a micro-USB port for fast charging through an outlet.
On clear sunny days, leave your Max Phone Charger outside in direct sunlight for 12-14 hours to fully charge your light. A red charging indicator will turn on to indicate that the light is charging. Click the charge indicator button once to see how charged your light is (1-4 green LED lights will blink indicating approximate charge).
When sunlight is not available or if you need charge more quickly. use the waterproof micro-USB port near the solar panel on the front of the product under a white cap. We include a red micro-USB to USB charging cord that you can use to recharge it. Simply plug in the micro-USB end into the port on the LuminAID light and plug the USB end of the cord into your computer or a 5V USB wall outlet adapter. You can use the same wall adapter that came with your phone. A red charging indicator light will turn on to indicate charging.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
